Holy Hole Batman!
I live in a house that is celebrating its 100th year standing. (I may throw it a party) So we start watching our chimney over teh last 18 months and have noticed the house being pulled down. Like 8-10 inches. Pulling the flooring and the walls and the windows down with it. Turns our we have 1) poor drainage 2)shifty soil 3)a freaking HUGE chimney (over 35 feet up) and a chimney foundation over 12 feet deep.
Its nuts. I have some pictures below of the massive holes the guys working on it have dug. On features a guy standing on a hole wall with another guy under him 12 feet down the hole.

Turns out they can get to the bottom of it and shore it up. Adding in peirs and metal braces and they will jack it up to fix the house and keep it from falling over.
